Supplementary Game Notes

Pennsylvania Road Warriors @ Newark Bears, Friday, May 16, 2003

It was just too cold for baseball tonight.

We apologize that, due to technical difficulties, no play-by-play report is available for tonight’s game.

Top of the 1st inning.  In the 4-3 double play executed by Santora and Hage, Santora tagged the runner Reyes on the basepath then threw to Hage to get the force on Escobar.

Top of the 3rd inning.  We (and everyone else in Riverfront Stadium except first base umpire Trent Delmont) thought that after Santora’s poor throw to first on Arroyo’s ground ball, Hage managed to tag Arroyo before he reached first base.  However, Delmont called him safe and the play was ruled E4.

Bottom of the 7th inning.  The stadium announcer failed to mention that Ortiz entered the game to replace Gustavo Escobar at shortstop and that Javier Sein replaced Isaias Nunez at first base; we were lucky to have noticed that the defense had changed.  These two players were announed as pinch hitters when they came to bat in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.  We only hope the official scorer got the changes and the statistics of all the players involved are updated correctly.
