Supplementary Game Notes

Game 30:  Newark Bears @ Nashua Pride, Tuesday, June 3, 2003

Note: We scored this game listening to the internet broadcast.

Bottom of the 2nd inning:  Kilburg’s grounder bounced off Lima’s bare hand then was fielded by Maestrales, who threw to Lebron to make the out.  This is why the play was scored 1-5-3.

Top of the 5th inning:  (1) Our box score differs from the official box score in that Martinez was officially credited with a hit and an advance on third baseman Pough’s throwing error, whereas we show it as reaching base on a 2-base error.  We agree with the official scoring of this play.  The reason we scored it as a 2-base error and no hit was that the play-by-play announcer reported the incorrect scoring on his broadcast, upon which we were relying for our information.  (2) Henderson was thrown out 2-1 trying to score on the wild pitch by Corbin to Lebron (second pitch of the at-bat).  Martinez and Torres advanced to third and second on the same pitch.

Top of the 6th inning:  Maestrales’ ground ball deflected off first baseman Larkin’s glove and was fielded by second baseman Kilburg, who threw to pitcher Corbin to get the out at first base.  This is why the play was scored 3-4-1.

Top of the 7th inning:  Martinez was put out by a tag by first baseman Larkin.  This detail is not evident from the scorecard.
