Supplementary Game Notes

Game 68:   Newark Bears @ Camden Riversharks, Monday, July 14, 2003

The Bears lineup announced before the game had Tim DeCinces batting 6th, in front of Wil Quintana batting 7th.  However, the official lineup given to the umpires had them reversed, i.e., Quintana batting 6th and DeCinces batting 7th.  The first two times through the batting order, DeCinces hit before Quintana, in other words, out of order, but for the subsequent at-bats they batted in the correct order.  In his first at-bat, DeCinces hit a two-run homer to put the Bears on the board; had the opposing manager noticed and appealed the at-bat before Quintana hit, DeCinces would have been declared out and the home run and runs would have not counted.  Click here to see the rule governing batting out of turn.  In his third at-bat (in the correct batting slot), Quintana singled. This turn of events is reflected in our scorecard and box score by switching the batting order of these two players the third time Quintana comes to the plate.
