Supplementary Game Notes

Game 74:  Somerset Patriots @ Newark Bears, Monday, July 21, 2003

Top of the 3rd inning:  The scorecard shows Emiliano Escandon being thrown out 1-2 (pitcher to catcher) at third base.  This merits some explanation:  on Ryan Radmanovich's ground ball back to the pitcher, Eric Martins, who was on third base, attempted to score.  Escandon went from second to third.  The catcher, Tim DeCinces, chased Martins back to third base, where Escandon was already standing!  Since you can't have two runners on a base, and Martins was entitled to third, Escandon was called out when DeCinces reached the base and tagged him.  This is Rule 7.03 in action.

Top of the 4th inning:  The double play that Jeff Nettles hit into was a "reverse force" double play.  Don't know what that means?  Check out...
