July 14, 2003:  Rickey Henderson became the latest Bear to make the jump out of the Atlantic League to Major League Baseball.  Rickey was signed today by the Los Angeles Dodgers, and will join them after the major league All-Star break this week.  He is already the major league record-holder in stolen bases, runs scored, leadoff home runs, and walks, and was a major contributor for the Bears in the first half of the 2003 season.  Rickey was hitting .339, with 8 home runs, 33 runs batted in and 9 stolen bases, when he swapped his Bears jersey for a Dodgers jersey.

Rickey was exciting to watch and his intensity and concentration were an inspiration to the rest of the team.  Good luck, Rickey -- we know you still have the spark!
