July 16, 2003:  Pete Maestrales, Newark Bears infielder, is on leave to compete in the Seniors Championship of the Confédération Européene de Baseball (C.E.B.), taking place in The Netherlands through July 19 (they started on July 11).  Pete is a starting infielder for the Greek team (check out the roster), and through Monday's game in Haarlem, he is 2-for-13 (.154) with 2 RBI.  He has made appearances at second base, shortstop, and third base.  Pete is due to return to the Bears on July 22.

They play with different rules in Europe:  according to the C.E.B. official Competition Rules, if one team is leading the other by 10 runs after 7 innings of play, the game ends!

By the way, at press time Greece is in first place in "Group 2," with a record of 4-1.
