December 11, 2003:  Two Newark public school students from the Extended Day School Programs were honored by the Newark Bears this evening for their contributions to this year's Bears holiday card design.  Nafiya Major drew the artwork, and Stacey Abasto came up with the greeting.

Introduced by Deborah Jennings of the Extended Day School Programs, and Mark Gallego and Melissa Manfre of the Bears, Nafiya and Stacey were presented with wonderful awards, including suites for their use with family and friends at a Bears game in 2004!  Manfre said that over 400 entries were received from the students, and that the Bears were so pleased that they are making the contest an annual event.  The Bears sent the card to their sponsors and season ticket holders, among others.

And what would a Bears media event be without Rip'N Ruppert!  The Bears' mascot made an appearance, posing for pictures with the young artists, and also spent some time with other kids who were doing activities nearby.

Congratulations to Nafiya and Stacey!  Newark Bears Fan looks forward to seeing you and your entourages at Riverfront Stadium next summer!
