Updates On Some Of Our Once (And In Some Cases, Future) Players

March 3, 2004:  Former Bear Jose Lima pitched two strong innings and came away with a win for the Dodgers in a spring training exhibition game against the Mets at Holman Stadium in Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida today. Lima faced seven batters and struck out four. On offense, Lima walked twice in the same inning and scored both times.

And, the Newark Bears announced today the signing of right-handed pitcher Tom Parks. Parks was a two-sport star at Mississippi State University, and was a punter with the New York Jets during the 2001 season. He also played professionally in the United Football League in Taiwan.

From 1995 through 1998 Parks pitched in independent leagues, compiling a 13-12 won-lost record and five saves in 68 career games.

Parks first signed with the Bears near the end of the 2003 season. During the off-season, Parks joined fellow Bears Mike Piercy, Pete Maestrales, and Jay LaFlair in Colombia, playing for the Cartagena Tigers under manager Bill Madlock.  (Let's see, they've been Tigers and Bears... what would happen if they went to Japan and got signed by Seibu?)
