LOST IN TRANSLATION

Trying to Follow Bears Alumni in the Winter Leagues

January 3, 2004:  Did you know that Mike Piercy was into gardening?  Newark Bears Fan never ceases to be entertained by the automatic Spanish-to-English translation tool at Google.  It is a world of quadrangles, gardeners, and parties!  And who -- or what -- on earth is "Trimming Goatherd?"  As we find online articles in the Spanish press, we feed them into the Google translation engine to try to get some inkling about what's going on.  Google has done an amazing job creating a tool for people to translate foreign-language web pages, but often, we do get some hilarious results!  Apparently, baseball Spanish is a fairly specialized vocabulary.

And in the second party, Cincinnati wrote down first. The Pirates tied the game with a race in the quarter and took advantage by the minim with another race in fifth. But the Red ones came from back tying the party with individual doubles in ninth, and it was not until the tenth when Pittsburgh was raised with the victory with a race supported in two simple ones and relief without annotations of Don Robinson.

Single in the third party the Pirates took a definitive advantage with six races in the first four entrances (two of them by quadrangular of Stargell and Bill Madlock), the Red ones surpassed 8 Pittsburgh hits to seven but only the quadrangular one of Johnny Bench contributed a race to them, as Bert Blyleven overcame them with the only performance of complete route in the series.
