Two Runners May Not Occupy The Same Base

The Major League Official Baseball Rules, followed by the Atlantic League, states the following in Rule 7.03:

Rule 7.00 The Runner

7.03 Two runners may not occupy a base, but if, while the ball is alive, two runners are touching a base, the following runner shall be out when tagged. The preceding runner is entitled to the base.

Rule 7.03 is cited in the notes to game 74 of the 2003 season.

These rules are quoted directly from the Major League Official Baseball Rules, which “govern the playing of baseball games by professional teams of the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, and the leagues which are members of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues."
